Overview
A messaging app where users exchange real time messages and send or request money inside the same conversation.
The Challenge
Standard REST needed to sit alongside real time WebSocket messaging and Stripe backed payments, and mobile connections needed to recover cleanly after the app was backgrounded or the device was locked.
Results & Impact
Used Laravel for standard REST APIs and Node.js with WebSockets and a Redis adapter for real time conversations, notifications and payment updates. Implemented Stripe based payment flows supporting both messaging and money movement. Improved mobile reliability with 30 second server side heartbeat pings and client side automatic reconnect with incremental delays after background or locked device disconnects.
